Today SingleHop announced a very exciting 5-year and $7.0-million-dollar deal to double the datacenter space of our second computing facility. Since we moved into this location in late May of 2009, we have experienced zero downtime, which is a testament to both the exceptional quality of the facility’s equipment as well as our world-class network engineering team.

While an expansion of this magnitude is exceptional all by itself, the fact that we did it less than 11 months after first opening this facility is truly noteworthy! It was only possible by the exceptional work of each SingleHop team member. You see, in spite of tremendous growth as a company, our employees’ constant dedication to excellence has ensured that our level of service, professionalism, and technological advancement has remained consistent, solid, and growing. SingleHop is here to stay, and we are looking forward to investing over $20 million more in the next three years to ensure that our products and services remain the best in the industry.

So, apart from the large numbers and corporate excitement, what does SingleHop’s deal mean for you, our customer?

-First of all, it lets you know that SingleHop is financially stable, solid, and focused on maintaining and improving our already legendary facilities and network.

-Second, it assures you that our corporate philosophy on growth is NOT to simply squeeze in as many customers as possible and turn a quick profit by disregarding future investment in technology, speed and equipment. We have grown this fast because we have extremely high standards of quality and reliability, and we know that to continue growing we must continue sustaining and raising the bar of these standards.

-Lastly, it offers all SingleHop customers, regardless of which of our datacenters their dedicated servers are located in, a more powerful network to depend on: a network that will support more products and services which can foster their own success. In fact, in this new space we will be further developing our upcoming Cascade cloud hosting system, which will revolutionize the possibilities of what dedicated server hosting can do.

Happy Hosting!

Sincerely,

The SingleHop Team

Regardless of your opinion of Apple’s new iPad device, you must accept that Apple has gone out on the limb and created a unique device that redefines, or more accurately, blurs the line between mobile and desktop computing.

We believe that verdict on the iPad’s success is still unclear, however, Apple’s focus on bleeding-edge innovation and creativity is something that we deeply admire and respect. After all SingleHop has continually redefined what dedicated server customers should expect from their hosting company. We began by offering our customers the most advanced server management control panel which we call LEAP. We then added mobile options such that server management could be done anywhere, anytime with LEAP mobile. We continued our streak by adding revolutionary offerings to LEAP such as SnapShield, an enterprise class on-demand firewall, and Ksplice Uptrack, a powerful software that enables rebootless kernes and OS updates on your dedicated servers.

So when we first learned of the iPad our office had much heated discussions on the merits of the machine, however, always looking for ways to redefine how dedicated servers are used, we knew that releasing a version of LEAP for the iPad was a must. So today, alongside the release of the Apple iPad, we proudly announce that if you happen to have the newest device from Cupertino you can have full control over your server with LEAP iPad!

Our LEAPmobile system has been designed so you can control your server through any mobile device such as the Android, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, iPhone and today the iPad.

To use LEAP iPad, direct your newest device to SingleHop.mobi

Enjoy!

Wow Spring is finally here in the windy city and the frigid wind has turned into a stellar cool breeze. The office doors are open and circulating cool air in and out of the entire office. But there are more things flying out the door aside from the wind, for example we had a stellar sales in the last month. Dedicated servers were flying out of Super Micro’s doors and into our Dupont Data Center. This in addition to our reseller program has kept all of us Account Executives on our toes keeping up with the demand and bringing on some spectacular new clients.

Some bonus and perks from all of this new business is that we have all new servers of your favorite Xeons fully stocked and ready to be customized to your order specifications. In addition we have recently partnered with R1 Soft!!! So if you want a really awesome secure management feature, now is the time to jump on board and add the free backup R1Soft service to your solution. Most companies usually charge around $25 and up for this stellar software, we are giving it out for free, you only pay for the cost of the backup space you use.

Why am I so excited about the R1Soft backup system? Well, the system is rock-solid reliable and uses a minimal amount of space by recording the changes that occur in the data, not the entire data-set over and over. So if you only use 3GB of backup, you would spend $4.50 per month for stress-free and trouble-free reliability without even having to pay for the industrial-grade R1Soft Backup software, it is FREE!

So yes, great and amazing changes are coming to Singlehop.com and we are looking to add more perks to our reseller program and expand our services into SingleHop’s unique cloud computing platform, which we are calling Cascade, soon. For more information and details message your Account Executive, and let the hot summer sales begin.

If you’re looking for disaster recovery services, there are a lot of “solutions” in the market … but few of them offer the flexibility, transparency and ease of use as R1Soft. Whether you’re running a hosting company, a dedicated MySQL service, or backup hosting – R1soft is a top-rated choice.

We’re now offering R1Soft backups for free, with the install and configuration done automatically.

Will it impact the performance of your dedicated server like most others’ backup solutions? No!
R1Soft’s disk-to-disk CDP software works by reading data at the sector level and only recording data that has changed since the last backup. This type of backup allows our clients to backup their data as often as every 15 minutes without seeing a harmful impact on server performance.

The common use of the R1Soft solution is backup hosting, such as offsite MySQL backups and disaster/backup recovery solutions for Linux and Windows servers.

You’ve likely had a moment in your life when you said, “I wish I could restore only this one file” or “I wish I could backup partition tables,” but your current backup strategy doesn’t provide those capabilities. R1soft, however, features single file restore as well as full server restore, or a single partition recovery. Yes, it is that flexible.

In fact, it does even more: you can choose a regular backup schedule, set the number of recovery points you wish to be kept and let it run in the background without any further configuration!

You’ve probably been looking for a solid way to backup MySQL service data without interruptions to the service itself – R1Soft has a solution for this, too. Simply input the MySQL credentials in the R1soft form and set the schedule to backup all MySQL databases.

With the security of a regular backup strategy, should you run into any problems with your production server data, you can enjoy easy restores of any part of the system. In fact, all restore options are available to you from inside our famous LEAP control panel. Your data can be restored with a few clicks of the mouse. The options within LEAP include:

Case #1 – single file/folder restore.

Case #2 – mysql database restore.

Case #3 – Partitions table restore.

Case #4 – Full server restore (known as “bare-metal restore”)

With free R1Soft backups from SingleHop, disaster recovery is now a breeze!

Spring is finally creeping into Chicago and with it comes one of SingleHop’s most exciting announcements to date. Today, we officially announced our cloud hosting platform, Cascade.

While we must keep the details slim, we can assure you that what you love about your dedicated servers will not change, and what you yearn for in cloud computing will be a reality. We know this all sounds a bit too good to be true, yet our world-class technicians and engineers have created what we believe is the best combination of dedicated server technology and cloud hosting advantages. This blending, or “cascading” of technologies, to create something faster, more stable, and more capable is what we set out to do and have been able to accomplish.

At SingleHop we like skydiving a good bit. In fact, the majority of the company recently jumped out of a plane in celebration of growth last year. Earlier this year, we launched our breakthrough reseller system named Tandem, as in tandem skydiving. Today we take another cue from skydiving in naming “Cascade”: when you blend two parachute lines into a stronger and more efficient one you are “cascading” the lines together. And when it comes to dedicated servers and cloud hosting, our new platform cascades both technologies into a more powerful, efficient, and effective solution.

Recently Burst.net have been offering dedicated servers at a cheap rate of $100 a month for a quad core, 8gb DDR2 ram, and a 1TB Sata II HDD. This week we’ve noticed that Burst.net are selling incredibly cheap VPS.

For $5.95 you can 512mb of ‘guaranteed’ memory, 1tb of bandwidth and 20GB disk space, along with DDoS protection, and basic management!

The offer seems to good to be true, typically a $5 VPS won’t give you anywhere near the specs of this one. However Burst.net do use the openvz platform, which allows overselling.

Offer includes 4TB of bandwidth on a 100mbit port and offers networking level DDoS filtering at no extra cost.
Hurry as this offer will run out soon, and has limited stock.

When a website becomes large enough to require a dedicated server, most administrators are quick to find a relatively priced server, and jump aboard. However personally, I’ve taken the time to look through multiple server providers; most of which have their own Data centers, and of course have been relatively impressed.

This time I’ve left the Dedicated Server for another time and given cloud computing a try. VPS.net run a powerful cloud private server system in which the user can buy ‘nodes’ for a price depending on the amount of nodes needed. The beauty in this is that I am able to change the amount of nodes i have at any time, without the sluggish delay of a normal VPS provider. For around $100, you can compete with many dedicated server options, while having the amazing backing of the VPS.net panel. Did i mention you can also move your services between the US and UK cloud?

At first i was a little weary about the Disk usage, most clouds run through a SAN disk array, meaning multiple servers would be connected to a storage server, which could perhaps be greatly overloaded. Thankfully it was not. And in fact was quite the opposite, with no I/O issues whatsoever. The actual system itself was not slow, and provided for whatever i needed, and is versatile enough for the developer.

I would definitely recommend VPS.net as a substitute to a Dedicated Server, especially for those with fluctuating services requiring different levels of ‘nodes’, also let it be known that the VPS.net nodes are extremely versatile and great for anyone with a project developing, or the hobbyist.

Edit: Received a few messages about the SAN used by vps.net, however i was referring to the speed and stability of the SAN, not the lack of one.

Difficult for Cisco not to be a key player in the Gartner 28th Annual Data Center Conference, as Gartner describes the mission of this event in the following terms  “See how to :
-Reduce IT costs while improving the quality of IT services.
- Maximize productivity from existing applications systems and services
-Align the data center culture with the business at large.
Let our analysts put you in the know with information-rich sessions on cloud computing, next-stage virtualization, vendor consolidation, cost-optimization best practices and much more. Your take-away: fresh insight on the key technology and market developments that drive today’s real-world solutions.”

Today at Gartner Data Center conference, Cisco invites several customers to talk about the benefit of virtualization and share their experience of deploying these technologies (including Unified Computing Systems , Nexus 1000V and VN link..)  during a special panel.

Over the past two years, Cisco has been incredibility busy in providing new data center solutions (Unified Fabric, Unified Computing , Service Oriented SAN)  to support the virtualization movement,  and to simplify, unify the data centers and amplify their role.
The success of Unified Computing is now pretty well known. Cisco successful participation to VMworld09 (largest UCS deployment ), Oracle  certification , the Alliance with EMC and VMware, the Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount servers , and the first customer success stories, are some of the proof points of the increasing  interest from the market.

In this video, Ed Chapman, Cisco VP product Management at the Server Access and Virtualization BU, explains  the great level of acceptance of the unified fabric portfolio. Customers such as Salem Hospital, University of Arizona,  Coca-Cola Bottling company, NetApp, or St Joseph health System share  their satisfaction reporting significant CAPEX and OPEX  reductions, based on the deployment of the Cisco Nexus family (Nexus 7000, Nexus 5000, Nexus 2000 and Nexus 1000V)

The  Nexus data center switching family , the Unified Computing Systems are presented on the Cisco booth at Gartner, as well as the Application Networking Services  portfolio, the Cisco’s Services Oriented SAN, Cloud Computing , Cisco’s services and the Intelligent Automation Platform  from Tidal Software, which recently joined Cisco.
