One of the more fun aspects of working at Cisco is an oppty to see all the cool things our customers are working on. Every once in a while, our customers are kind enough to let us write about what they are up to, and such is the case with TASER International (of Taser fame). Taser has launched an a cloud-based service for law enforcement authorities called Evidence.com. The service is a virtual evidence warehouse, offering digital storage in a highly secure, easily accessible environment that allows law enforcement and legal professionals to quickly access key evidence, including video and audio data captured from an officer’s viewpoint. Even if you are not in law enforcement, its kinda cool to check out the website and see the technology in action.

As you can imagine, this kind of offering needs some significant back-end infrastructure in place, which is why they turned to Cisco. We helped them design a data center environment that would help them meet their stringent operations requirements and keep up with the scaling requirements. We were able to go from planning to a deployed system, based on Cisco UCS and Cisco Nexus, in 98 days with the help of the Cisco Advanced Services team. The deployed system saved Taser $900,000 in up front costs and they expect to save an additional $37,000 a year in reduced power and cooling costs.
