(The Hosting News) – Comodo Security Solutions announces the release of its Comodo Endpoint Security Manager 1.5 software. Comodo Endpoint Security Manager is integrated with Comodo Internet Security, rated #1 in proactive security by Matousec.com, an independent security testing authority. Comodo Endpoint Security Manager 1.5 combines the unparalleled malware prevention of Comodo Internet Security software together with powerful central administration features for businesses with dozens to thousands of PCs. New in version 1.5 are breakthrough features, including Auto Sandbox Technologyâ„¢, and a limited warranty to repair PCs damaged by malware.

Businesses of all sizes are increasingly targeted by hackers, with a disturbing trend of attacks directed at specific personnel or groups, such as corporate finance staff with access to electronic banking systems. Starting in mid 2009, small businesses, local governments, educational institutions and not-for-profit organizations began reporting staggering financial losses due to malware attacks. These mounting losses are due in part to weaknesses in conventional PC security solutions that have long relied on a “blacklisting” approach that blocks only known threats from executing. Because most threats are unknown at the initial point of contact, they are unlikely to be blocked by conventional security software. Coupled with the fact that many users do not keep their computers or security software regularly updated, it’s no surprise that businesses continue to encounter financial loss and other problems stemming from malware infection. Comodo Endpoint Security Manager, with Comodo Internet Security, has been engineered to obliterate this trend.

Melih Abdulhayoglu, Comodo’s CEO and Chief Security Architect said, “The cost of ineffective PC security in the business community is staggering. In addition to direct financial losses due to cybercrime, businesses are increasingly burdened by high IT staff costs to remediate malware infections and administer security software, increased equipment costs to replace infected PC’s, and losses to employee productivity due to slow or unavailable PCs.” Abdulhayoglu explained, “As a result, businesses are actively seeking better protection. Through its unparalleled ability to prevent virus and other malware infections, Comodo offers businesses what they really need, at a fraction of the price they’re currently paying for an ineffective product.”

Comodo Endpoint Security Manager 1.5 redefines PC security for businesses by shifting the protection paradigm from conventional detection to proactive prevention, providing unparalleled superior protection. With core security provided by Comodo Internet Security 4.0 and its Default Deny Technology™, only those files that are on the safe “whitelist” of over 15 million files are allowed to run and access critical system resources or information.    All other files are either blocked, because they are known to be unsafe, or automatically “sandboxed” if their safety is unknown. While sandboxed, an application is closely monitored and given limited privileges, it can only write to a virtual file system and registry. Comodo’s unique, patent-pending Auto Sandbox Technology™ relieves users and administrators from having to make difficult decisions about which applications to block and which to allow, this makes the product both easier to use and more secure than competitive alternatives. Default Deny Technology™, working in concert with fully-featured antivirus and firewall components allows Comodo Internet Security 4.0 to provide the strongest protection against viruses and malware of any other PC Security solution available today. No other company provides this automated sandbox feature today.

The key features included in the Comodo Endpoint Security Manager 1.5 package are:

- Default Deny Technologyâ„¢ — Provides proactive malware protection designed to stop all known and unknown virus and malware attacks
- Antivirus — Searches, tracks down and destroys malware already on a PC, and blocks known malware
- Auto Sandbox Technologyâ„¢ — Decides automatically if unknown applications should run on your PC by first launching in a secure virtual environment where files cannot damage the PC
- Firewall — Defends PC’s against inbound attacks, hides PC ports from hackers and keeps malicious software from transmitting confidential data over the Internet

livePCsupport — 24×7 live support by PC security experts

- Direct link to livePCsupport experts integrates into Endpoint Security Manager Console
- Remote Desktop Connection module enables Comodo livePCsupport experts to remotely configure or troubleshoot Endpoint Security Manager installation (at no additional expense)

Comodo Limited Warranty — provides up to $5000 in restoration costs per license file for all licensed endpoints infected and damaged by malware while protected by Comodo Internet Security under Endpoint Security Manager 1.5, subject to terms and conditions. Comodo’s guarantee gives customers the peace of mind in knowing that all malware and viruses will be stopped completely before ever penetrating their systems.

Pricing and Availability
Comodo Endpoint Security Manager 1.5 is priced per PC or endpoint based on the number of endpoint licenses purchased. Prices range from $22.95/year for 100 or fewer endpoint licenses to below $10/year for over 5000 endpoints. Purchases can be made immediately by requesting a demo at the Comodo website or by calling the Comodo sales department for more information.

(The Hosting News) – iWeb recently announced that Executive Vice-President of Resources, Marc Guindon‘s role within the organization will move from an operational one to a more strategic involvement, notably as a member of the board of directors, as well as coaching the other members of management.

“Marc has played a very important role in iWeb’s maturing process, since the IPO in 2004” says Eric Chouinard, CEO and cofounder of the company that now hosts 12,500 dedicated servers in its Montreal Data centers. “This is a great example of successful knowledge transfer and mentoring.”

Mr. Guindon, who previously served as Chief Financial Officer, will remain active on iWeb’s board of directors, where he has been serving since March of 2009, in addition to being a member of the Audit Committee. He will also be involved as a consultant for various special projects, including eventual acquisition plans.

“It would be very hard to find a better coach” said Philip Tousignant, who became iWeb’s Chief Financial Officer in 2008. “We are very pleased to be able to count on Marc’s expertise on our board of directors.”

Regarding his career transition, Mr. Guindon said: “Being involved with a company that plays such a pivotal role in Quebec’s IT development has been an extraordinary experience. iWeb is in very good hands at this point, for the benefit of our customers and shareholders. All the better if I have contributed to its success.” he concludes, with his typical straightforwardness.

Marc Guindon was a member of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Québec and Ontario. He joined iWeb in 2004 as Chief Financial Officer, shortly before the company’s initial public offering (IPO), to eventually become Executive Vice-President, Resources, in October 2008. Having spent the early stages of his career at Ernst &Young, Mr. Guindon then joined the SNC Group as Vice-President of Finance, later filling the same position with Treco, a division of the Canam-Manac Group. Following the creation of two groups of industrial companies, he sold his interests and retired (for the first time) in 1996, before joining iWeb.

As of June 1st 2010, iWeb’s senior management will consist of:
• Eric Chouinard, President, CEO and cofounder
• Martin Leclair, President, Products and Technology, cofounder
• Philip Tousignant, Chief Financial Officer
• Cyril Mertès, Chief Technology Officer

(The Hosting News) – On every front – marketing and sales, new customer acquisition and product development – Open-Xchange has made significant strides already in 2010, including an April 2010 Editors’ Choice Award for providing customers with the very best service and support, based on editorial and consumer reviews.

In March, the provider of business-class open source collaboration software moved to increase its U.S. sales presence by adding Behshad Behnam as vice president of sales, Americas. The former Parallels executive spearheads service provider initiatives for Open-Xchange.

Last month, the company introduced simplified SaaS partner pricing with different partner levels based on the providers’ customer base, along with two options of pricing – flat rate and guaranteed revenue. In both pricing options, partners receive Open-Xchange Webmail and PIM (personal information manager) free for all their customers to enable them to replace their existing webmail solution as part of the new partner pricing.

Today, Open-Xchange is used by leading hosting providers in the U.S., such as Dotster and Network Solutions, as well as 1&1 Internet in the U.S. and Germany. The company increased users to more than 15 million people worldwide – an increase of 80 percent in 2009.

Among the most recent customers to be added are:

1&1 Internet, the largest webhosting company worldwide, which is providing Open-Xchange based webmail and PIM functionality to all its 6 million e-mail accounts worldwide.

Dotster Inc., which started making available its business e-mail offering including synchronization with mobile devices, both powered by Open-Xchange.

Versatel, Germany’s third-largest telecommunications provider, which replaced its webmail system providing more than 1 million users with Open-Xchange webmail.

Bull Germany, with approximately 8,000 employees worldwide and 500 employees in Germany, now offers Open-Xchange mail and groupware to its German customers. Bull customers can use Open-Xchange as a hosted solution provided by Bull or run it in-house as on-premises installation – and switch between the types of operation any time they like.

Softline, the leading software reseller in Russia and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), announced it will resell on-premises and hosted Open-Xchange.

Dinahosting, the leading independent company in the Spanish market for registering domains and hosting services and an independent provider of Internet business services, will be the first partner to offer Open-Xchange in Spain.

The company also continues to add capabilities at an aggressive pace.

The Open-Xchange 4PSA VoipNow Bundle is the result of a partnership with 4PSA, an innovative software supplier specializing in Unified Communications, VoIP delivery solutions, business and operations automation. It gives users telephone and fax integrated with e-mail, contacts, calendar and task information. By combining Open-Xchange with Unified Communications and Virtual PBX solutions, businesses can replace their traditional phone lines – saving on phone bills.

In addition, software called 4PSA OXtender for Plesk now enables hosters and SaaS providers to replace Plesk Webmail in shared hosting environments with Open-Xchange business-class e-mail and groupware – providing users with additional PIM (Personal Information Management) features at no extra cost with an option to move to full groupware, as well as support for mobile devices. The new software simplifies Open-Xchange deployment and significantly reduces set up time by automating management of Plesk changes, such as password changes, mailbox renames and removals.

In February, Open-Xchange began offering its e-mail and groupware in cooperation with hardware manufacturer Pyramid as pre-configured and ready-to-run appliances for up to either 50 users or 300. The hardware appliances include an e-mail and collaboration server, document management, backup/recovery, virus and spam protection, plus Linux operating system. Open-Xchange hardware appliances are offered in two configurations for partners in North America and all European Union countries.

Working with eleven, Germany’s leading e-mail security provider, Open-Xchange users can now take advantage of eleven’s e-mail security solution called, eXpurgate, which is scalable, easy to integrate, and offers a spam detection rate of more than 99 percent.

Open Source Groupware Provider Builds Momentum

(The Hosting News) – ServInt, a pioneering provider of managed web hosting for businesses worldwide, today announced it has earned the endorsement of leading sports blogger Brooks Melchior of Sports by Brooks (www.sportsbybrooks.com).

Sports by Brooks, a ServInt customer since 2002, has been online since May 2001. It has become one of the world’s largest, independently owned general sports blogs and it is regularly cited by major sports networks.

In November 2009, when the news surrounding Tiger Woods’ personal life was broken by Melchior, the resulting global traffic surge threatened to cripple the popular sports site. Instead, ServInt’s engineering team quickly implemented a custom solution that quadrupled the server resources dedicated to the site. Consequently, the site not only survived the massive traffic spike, but actually performed better than ever before.

This emergency deployment spanned several product lines, including ServInt’s new Solo Series Dedicated Servers and an auxiliary cluster of high-density SuperVPS server environments. The deployment was more than enough to accommodate the immense growth in site traffic — from four million to 18 million visitors — that took place in the wake of the Tiger Woods story.

“Sports by Brooks was one of the first sites to break the Tiger Woods story,” said Melchior. “We instantly became the go-to source for dozens of media outlets and the huge jump in traffic nearly brought the site to its knees. When I called ServInt, they jumped to the challenge and built us a custom solution in just a few hours – on a holiday weekend, no less. When they were finished, Sports by Brooks was better, faster, and ready to tackle anything.”

Melchior concluded, “My blog is my business, and ServInt gets what I do. They are the best company I’ve ever dealt with in building my business. Period.”

ServInt Founder and Chief Executive Officer Reed Caldwell said, “Popular sites need more than just a web host, they need a trusted partner that is available 24/7/365. In Brooks’ case, he also needed a true teammate during one of America’s busiest holiday weekends to respond to the biggest story he’d ever broken. We were happy to help – to do what ServInt does best – and we look forward to meeting his hosting requirements well into the future.”

(Gawkwire.com) – When people ask me what is the best of the best, better than all of the rest tool that I use for my web development and design needs the answer I give them is simple.  It is something that we all have at least tried, and I am willing to bet a lot of us already use.  I tell them to go get Firefox.  There are a plethora of tools, services and extensions for Firefox that just makes a web designer’s life (no matter your expertise level) easier.

Firebug
The thing that makes this extension for Firefox a winner is that it gives you the ability to edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and Javascript live in any web page.  It never gets in your way because it opens up in a separate window, or as a bar at the bottom of your browser.

Web Developer Toolbar
As the Holy Grail for many web designers who use Firefox, the Web Developer Toolbar has just about every design and editing tool you would ever need all tied into one single toolbar in the browser.  It is designed for Firefox, Flock  and Seamonkey, and will run on any platform that these browsers support including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

FireFTP
Why have an FTP client and a browser when you can merge the two into one.  For people who like to simplify the number of programs they run, this extension is also a must have.  Once installing, FireFTP will act as any other regular FTP program would allowing you to FTP into sites with that familiar FTP interface as well as allow you to save FTP address and login details.

FireShot
If you find yourself taking a lot of screen shots for design or even just as something to stick in your blog post, FireShot is your screen capture key on steroids.  FireShot allows you to quickly capture and edit web page screen shots and save them out as PNG, JPG or BMP.  One more checkmark is you can insert text and graphical annotations.

FoxyProxy
As a replacement to Firefox’s proxy configuration, FoxyProxy supercharges your proxy details.  Once installed you can ditch the limited interface Mozilla gives you to work with and automatically switch an internet connection across one or more proxy servers based on URL patterns.

IE View
One thing I know designers hate to do is switch from browser to browser to make sure everything looks "just right" while they are working on their digital masterpieces.  With IE View installed you can quickly launch pages from Firefox into Internet Explorer.  If you want to open a page using just Internet Explorer’s engine in a new Firefox tab you might also look at the IE Tab extension.

ColorZilla
Finding the right color and colors that work well together is no easy task.  For me the perfect color companion is the ColorZilla extension.  It includes a dropper tool to allow you to capture a color from anywhere on a web page.  As a bonus, it can also act as a page zoomer and color picker.

Screengrab!
Saving scrolling web documents from top to bottom is a perk that many designers wish they had.  When it comes to capturing layouts or saving past work, you no longer have to stitch web sites together that are too big for the screen.  You can also resize the space your are capturing so you can save a little or save a lot.  The choice is up to you.

HTML Validator
You want your web page to uphold to all the standards, right?  The HTML Validator extension adds an icon to your status bar to tell you if your HTML is standards compliant according to the W3C.  If you do have an error it will let you know how many so that you can get them fixed up.

YSlow
Using Yahoo’s own rules for high performance web sites, YSlow will tell you why your web page might be loading a little slower than you would like for it to.  This is handy when trying to figure out the age old debate of is it my network connection that is too slow or is in the multitude of dancing .GIFs I have on the web page.

MeasureIt
Most people would not think that measurements have such an important part to play in the web design and development process.  Having a ruler on screen to tell you the pixel height and width of any element is handy to have and is delivered with the MeasureIt extension for Firefox.

SeoQuake
This extension is aimed at helping webmasters determine where certain links stand on the web as far as search engine optimization is concerned.  Broken into two parts, the toolbar will give you handy links to find out where any link measures up in SEO juice.  The second part adds SEO details to your search results so you can see the same results all layed out for you on each link.

View Source Chart
Everything in the world would be better if it was just color coded.  For an example, just look at what View Source Chart does for your web site’s source code.  It categorizes everything by color to make it easier to understand what goes with what.  Don’t worry guys, having things all colorized does not make you any less of a man.  It just makes you a little more of a colorful coder.

CSSViewer
CSSViewer lets you see what is "under the hood" at your favorite Web sites. Once installed, it provides you with a simple CSS property viewer.  Once you get past some of the visual and personal preferences, there is not much I would change. The extension does what it does, and does it well.

There is no doubt that when it comes to the browser wars going on these days that Firefox delivers you more when it comes to helping you be the best you can be.  You can find these helpful tools on Mozilla’s own web site for all of their themes and extensions, (http://addons.mozilla.org).
